Narcissism

I'm researching narcissism,

for my Composition II class.

This subject motivates my mind,

because

in a sense, 

aren't we all narcissistic?

Everyday we look in the mirror,

we examine ourselves

for flaws, yet

we are all imperfect.

Do we honestly,

do you seriously, 

consider ourselves,

yourself

to not be,

narcissistic?

I'm sure, occasionally

you'll put others

first,

but answer me this,

are you willing

to let go

and

be there for others?

The same way you are

for yourself?

Now, I go absolutely nuts for prose poetry, but I think this would read better in that format. Please be aware that I go NUTS for the stuff so I do tend to push people into it.

In terms of answering your question, mythologically Narcissism is very extreme. And, Psychologically, it is also an extreme trait. I think that we are all on a continuum which runs from tramp-don't-care to Narcissist, but very few thankfully dwell to near that far edge. Narcissists tend to demand the attention of others, too, making it quite a socially imposing personality feature.

You get narcissists online, and they talk about themselves a lot and try to look cool. By the way do you know that I am made of first edition first issue Action Comics and have muscles the size of ocean waves?

I really enjoy reading this review, because I am actually about to start forming my rough draft for my research paper, if people generationally are becoming more narcissistic. You do have some good points, because as you said narcissism is an extreme characteristic, but narcissism isn't a set in stone trait. It can fluctuate and people can be more narcissistic than others.

I found a website some time ago when researching personality disorders, which I wish I could find again. It was a narcissist male cogently discussing how he attracted and used females. I am sure it was linked to regularly on a forum for women discussing such relationships.

Some of this is going to be using the term wrongly, but I wonder if that might be a feature of your research paper. Because these terms -- which come from literature, as Freud based his explanation of humanity on myths -- have taken on a life of their own beyond the diagnostic science of clinical/psychiatric psychology.

Yeah, one of the focuses of my research paper is going to be how narcissism might be overly diagnosed now, because of how older people are always finding faults in younger generations, because psychologically they are less open to new ideas.
