Frolicking Deer

A Poem by H.L. Cerveise

Frolicking Deer

I was a buck frolicking in the words.

Jumping and leaping

Feeling a joy I did not feel in years.

It was now dark.

Still I danced.

I wanted to share with the source.

The source showed up, and I was slow.

I found myself in the middle of a long black road.

Suddenly, a bright blinding light came towards me.

I was too full of myself to notice at first.

When I did shake myself, it was too late.

The semi was upon me.

I froze and did not move quick enough.

I felt as each tire hit my fury body.

I lay in the road watching the tail lights.

I lay there knowing but knowing to late,

Now my eyes close in pain,

As my heart ceases its beating

The life of a deer. Here in Michigan. Amazing how many years they can live. Your poem described some foolishness and poor ending jumping and leaping deer. Thank you my friend for sharing your amazing poetry and your thoughts.
