Simple Faith

Simple Faith

A Poem by H.L. Cerveise

Simple Faith

I see the children's bicycles carefully parked,
they rest under the shade of an old maple tree.

Not just any tree but one that is special,
for it sits in front of a white village church.

It has seen many pass-bye throughout the years,
young and old enter and exit this gathering place.

Every leaf vibrates from the songs,
as voices and organ waft out the open windows.

It stretches its branches toward the church,
for it wants to add its voice.

Roots embrace tight the foundation,
a foundation that goes back generations.

It feels so connected to those within,
and it smiles as they exit and walk by.

The children retrieve their bikes,
its cooling shade has kept them safe.

I look upon the tree and the souls gathered,
both young and old have a renewed spirit.

I can see the young ones absorbing the light,
a light that shines forth from the old and the tree.

Just like the tree the old ones have survived the storms,
they have grown stronger because of them.

However, I see the same light in all,
an energy that flows through them.

There is nothing complex nor misunderstood,
it reflects and bounces back and forth between.

As minds of the young keep it pure,
the hearts of the old keep them safe.

I smile at it all for it truly is a simple faith!
