Tribute to SocratesA Poem by H.L. CerveiseNot the Socrates you are thinking and another from the thirty plus years archive
Death has claimed his prize Her cold body rejects my warmth Stiff and silent she be No more to sleep or drink
Why must love bring the stars of sorrow Ill earth devastates that which I love Or they dissolve in the gleaming reality
On death's eve I held her My heart screamed at the omens But I knew I could not keep Dark demons of death at bay Sharp spears of the pain god sank deep
Her lips will part no more Nostrils once savored the fuel of life Have forever stopped Surrounded by the product of man Thoughtfully placed In the bin of man's demise She is gone never to return
