The Poet

The Poet

A Poem by H.L. Cerveise

The Poet

His troubled and weary thoughts form the lines
While his eyes see only the black of the mines
His broken heart connects the twisting words
But still the dark knight welds his rusty sword

Some smile
    But others frown

Logic has lost its way
    Confusion ruins the day
Some say he is sad
While others say he must be mad
Crazy or sane he knows not
For his mind be tied in a knot

Some laugh
    While others cry

Alone or in a crowd he feels strange
And at times he wishes all were out of range
Hurt upon hurt till he can take no more
Yet the world pokes open still another sore

Some live
    But all must die

He feels forgotten and alone
Only words comfort his swollen eyes
Sleep fails him
But written pages ease the pain

He reads till he can see no more
His fingers write the mighty lore
When he thinks he has felt the worst pain yet
Still one hurt more cursed than all does beset

Tears help not
    And laughter only hurts

The novelist finishes his book
And the storyteller speaks of a happily ever after
But the Poet can find no end
    Till the day he dies
He never does finish that one last line

Writers write, singers sing, artists create and dreamers dream.

In the mess of a writer's mind. Always something left to say. Thank you for sharing the excellent poetry.

You are right and you are welcome.
I love the last stanza. Overall, this poem had a smooth flow and rhyme scheme. Great work.
