The fifth fleet

A Pincer Movement

An excerpt

At ten minutes past six am the red phone rang at the CIA head residence, he woke up and sent his hand to the receiver next to his bed.

Who is it honey?’ His wife mumbled half asleep yet.

The CIA head raised his torso up to a sitting position, and raised his left hand forefinger to his pursued lips; hinting to his wife to keep her mouth shut, and he listened to the president’s voice on the other side of line.

It’s the president honey,’ he told her as he hung off. ‘I’ve got to go,’ he added and left bed.

But for how long and what about our weekend plans?’

I’ll call you from my office honey.’ He answered her and went to the cupboard to dress up. While dressing up he alerted his chaufeur and when he went out the latter was already waiting beside his boss limo with switched on engine.

Within the short drive to his Washington office he called the service officer on duty, and told him to prepare a concise report on the current events in Teheran.

At eight thirty he was already having breakfast in the White House with the president, the secretary of defense, the secretary of state, the house chief of staff and the president’s personal advisor; they discussed the Teheran demonstrations including the visions of the mob trampling on the US and Israeli flags, the public exhibiting of hanged puppets illustrating roughly the president’s features.

What do they expect to gain by it the stupied idiots?’ The president expressed his amazement, caused by these rude acts and demonstrations.

‘’It did work miracles for them with the previous administration whenever they used these tactics sir.’ The secretary of defense explained to the president the Iranian frenzied hatred demonstrations.

And do they expect to impress us with these stupid acts?’

No sir they aren’t stupid at all on the contrary they’re wise and cunning, it might serve as a cover up to attacks by their proxies on our fleet in the Persian Gulf; or to attack stealthilly our troops in Iraq and Syria through their Shia militias, as if it’s friendly fire cases.’

What have we gained by our involvement in Syria and Iraq, with the Astana talks on Syria’s future on the one hand, and on the other the Iranians’ meddlings in Syria and Iraq? Why shouldn’t we pull out completely of both these blood draining countries?’ The president wondered with an obvious note of concern.

Yes sir that would be the right thing to do, we can always maintain our interesta in that battered region through Turkey sir.’

I’d like to add a few words on the Astana talks sir.’ The CIA head hastened to rejoin the discussion. ‘According to the service intelligence and research experts’ conclusions, the Astana talks were initiated by the Russian in order to prevent a possible demand by us sir for a creation of a non-fllight zone over Syria...’

Why did you keep it from us up till now then?’

Well sir it’s the eruption of the new crisis with Teheran I guess that caused it.

I see alright let’s pull out of Iraq, and as for Syria we’d better wait for the Astana talks results. But the greatest risks that we might confront are at the Persian Gulf right? So what have we got over there, what naval task force is stationed there and what kind of ships it includes?

The fifth fleet sir includes eigth task forces and it’s comprised of all the various vessels needed to protect the Arabian Sea and the South Pacific Ocean. Task force fifty one strike force anchors in Bahrain, and is joined by task force fifty six with its groups of logistics, maritime security and anti terrorism groups; they are well prepared sir and they include all the needed vessels from two carriers, several destroyers up to minesweeper vessels; while except the missile attack on the Saudie destroyer by the Houties their Yemenite proxies, the Iranian didn’t dare to attack our naval task forces, there were some show off threats by the Iranian navy speed boats last year but nothing more sir.’

I do expect you to prepare a suitable retaliation plan, if they’ll dare to attack our ships.’

We’ve one sir of a combined attack by Tomahawk missiles and air strikes on the Ayathollahs and the revolutionary guards’ power centers.’

Very well then, what’s left is to warn them through a third party to stop their ballistic missiles tests, it’s your task Mike.’ The president turned to the CIA head, and summed up the meeting rather satisfied.
