Synopsis

 

This espionage thriller relates the trials of Amina Rifa'ee a young Syrian woman, who was born in Damascus Syria; she is a beloved daughter of a prominent Ba'ath party member, who intends to marry her to his business associate.  She refuses to marry her father's choice and is sent to study in London School of Economics as a compromise; while her fiancé' is compensated by her family.

Her loneliness drives her to the arms of Murad the Libyan (an Israeli Mossad agent), and during her fourth year of studies she moves to his apartment and thus cuts off her ties with her family.

As Murad does not succeed to persuade her to become a secret agent, he introduces her after a relationship of several months to Kenneth Collins the
the Beirut American embassy's press attaché who is in fact a CIA agent. Amina falls in love with Kenneth; and the latter takes her with him to Beirut Lebanon to train her in clandestine activity, to prepare to serve the Israeli Mossad as a secret agent in Damascus, without her being aware to it. But after a rather short while in Beirut she is recognized by her fiancé's brother, and he informs her to the Syrian internal security service. She is kidnapped and whisked to the El Maza jail in Damascus, where she is interned. During her first interrogation and the threat of torture drives she to agrees to become a double agent, and thus to atone for her treason instead of torture and death, which would be her fate if she will refuse to serve the Syrian intelligence, and thus she accepts and becomes a double agent.. She is driven back to Beirut to join again her American operator, who believes her cover story that she was kidnapped by her ex fiancé's hired hoodlums, and was saved miraculously by several citizens, and spent the thirty six hours of her absence in a Beirut hospital.

Her operator realizes that her hideout apartment was bugged during her absence, he takes her to London to prepare her new identity, and their next stop is Ankara Turkey where he trains her as a secret agent; and at the end of her training she is sent to Syria under the cover of an UNESCO inspectress; where she meets again Abdul Karim the head of the Syrian internal security service, who is her lover and her operator.
