Summer Tempest

An excerpt

Erella collapsed on top of him, and stayed thus without another movement for several seconds; and then turned around and sprawled on her back beside him.

'Have you laid Nehama yesterday? She asked him unnerving him for a friction of a second.

'No, why does it interest you?

Do I've to tell her the truth? She hasn't fallen in love with me all of a sudden. She never liked to share her feelings with anyone else.

'No we haven't done it for some time now.' He answered doing his best to persuade her in believing him.

'She must have asked where you've suddenly vanished yesterday, and as for today, how are you getting along? Go ahead tell me and don't try to change the subject, when it doesn't suit you.'

'Well I did have a serious problem yesterday, when I left the hotel. I've hailed a cab and was quite close to my parked car, when I fell upon an extraordinary idea…' Yoske said and burst out laughing in mid sentence. 'I drove to Ichilov hospital to the accident and emergency hall, and called her from there.'

'An excellent idea indeed,' Erella noted laughing. 'And what was the reason for that exceptional move?'

'Angina Pectoris, some kind of a heart attack,' Yoske answered and kept on laughing. 'The truth is I was exhausted, the strain, the thoughts how to explain my morning absence almost killed me. In short I've told her that I was ordered to rest in the afternoon, and to hike a few miles every morning, and that solved our problem.'

'Do you want to tell me that she believed you without any premeditated investigations? I do know her very well, ever since our times together in the past.'

'You're dead right Erella, she isn't a blockhead on the contrary she's sharp and a very suspicious type as you surely know, I'd to probe my brain to find a reliable cover story; and I'd to explain to her the treatment that I've supposedly received at the hospital. This morning before I parted with her I've told her the course that I've decided to take for my morning hiking.' He made a short pause, wondering whether he should go into all his supposedly alibi details.

After all in a few more days she'll be flying back to her husband, and this fabulous adventure that we lead would pass as if it never happened.

'I've chosen a course that aroused her excitement, and strengthened the credibility of my cover story.'

'This I understand is a personal matter, which I don't have to know, isn't it?'

'Not at all it isn't some kind of a secret, it's a virtual recapture of the first time that I'd walked her home, and that's how our relationship started.'

'So that's what did convince her, fine. You know I've heard about you two long ago from my sister, in my previous visits. I've been always curious to know how it did happen. I couldn't believe that you would fall for Nehama, it isn't that bad of course and I don't know how to explain it. I would have thought that you would fall for someone 36 like Edna or Carmela, Nehama after all wasn't much sought by males; and she didn't interest you in particular, at those times when you were our instructor in the youth movement. '

'It's true, but it happened because of you…'

'Because of me and what have I done to make you fall for her?'
