The Thrilling Adventure

An excerpt

Major Yaniv did not have a meeting with any one, but he needed to arrange a temporary lodging where he will pass his first night in Awash.

I should've asked the red beret where he's staying with Arnon; I don't intend to stay with them at the same hotel… And I don't intend to pass more than one night in any hotel, he decided while leaving the Awash national park and driving in the town's main street. Oh this hotel seems fit to my status, he thought and stopped in front of The Awash Meridian Hotel.

A porter hastened to offer his services as soon as Yaniv parked his car and got off. Yaniv opened his boot lid and the porter unloaded his suitcase and took it inside to the reception counter. At the end of the check-in formalities, Yaniv went up to room accompanied by the porter that carried his suitcase. He sent the porter off with an average tip, checked the room and went down again. He left his room key at the reception counter and went out to look for a real estate agency. There was a bar on the street's other side and a few shops, but not what he was looking for. Just like in Addis real estate agents did not have offices, the deals were done in restaurants, bars or even in the street. He summed up his first impressions, and decided to drive to the north eastern edge of the Awash National Park, where he saw a villas' sector when he left the camp; and indeed there is a Tukul (hut in Amharic) with two men at the side of the path, which led into the villas' sector. He got off and turned to the two men who were real estate agents no doubt, but to his surprise they did not speak English and turned to him in Italian.

It's no use I'd better return to the camp and take one of the instructors to serve as my interpreter.

As he crossed the camp's gate and was driving on the path leading to the office, he could see the company on his right hand side in mid drill, crossing the obstacle course, and his two team members and lieutenant Dawit standing together not far off.

He stopped the car, got off and went towards them.

'Hi I'm very encouraged by what I'm seeing here.' He turned to the three of them with a smile.

'I'm afraid I'll need the lieutenant's help for a short while.'

The three of them looked at him surprised and even alarmed, but it did not stop major Yaniv.

'Okay lieutenant come it's getting late, and I'll explain to you while driving how you're supposed to help me.'
