The decisive order

A pre-emptive strike

The first thing that was on the prime minister mind on Monday morning after his return from Istanbul, was his meeting with the head of the intelligence service; a meeting that turned into a ritual, and he never had to remind it to his loyal subordinate. He delayed all his meetings that were planned to this morning to ten am. He knew he could always rely on Olgun's reasoning and insight, but the president's doubts during their mutual  weekend in istanbul worried him. He had to make sure that the operation was conducted perfectly, and they won't face an unpleasant surprise next week.

Olgun entered the prime minister's Majlis office right on time, greeted his superior and sat facing him waiting with respect and patience to his boss to start the usual short meeting.

'Were there any developments that we should pay particular attention to during the weekend?'

The prime minister's question surprised Olgun, except the previous meeting in which the prime minister ordered him to start the second stage; their Monday morning meeting started usually with mutual greeting and a moment or two of small talk. But this morning the prime minister seemed to be on edge.

'Nothing in particular Your Excellency, except ISIS slow advance towards Bagdad, while the civil war in Syria is at a stand still.'

'Where're the Kurd and his wife staying?'

'They're staying at the Malito Hotel in Irbil Your Excellency.'

'So till he and his wife will land here next week, you won't have any contact with him?'

'That's right Your Excellency that's part of the plan, he has to be on his own…'

'But as they stay on assumed identities you could have kept your contact with him, and make sure he won't change his mind and fly the devil know where or defect.'

'Any contact with him during these two weeks could expose that complicated stage of the operation Your Excellency, as there're some other Kurds except his friend working with IHH not in their Ankara center but In Istanbul, and they've a few contact men in the Kurdish autonomy; and to prevent our agent and his wife's exposure there, he was ordered to wait for a supposedly local agent to contact him, This fake instruction makes sure that they won't leave the hotel's premises, during these two weeks he and his wife.'

'Well Olgun arrest him as soon as he lands next week at the airport, and see that it will get due publicity despite your supposedly efforts to avoid it.'

'Alright Your Excellency,' Olgun hastened to declare and cleared his throat, taking pains to hide his embarrassment.

'So you thought of arresting him later on, at his address didn't you?'

'Well yes Your Excellency he's one of our best men, and I don't want to lose him.'

'If he's that good he'll get over it, and in any case Olgun you can always assign him to serve again in Iraq or Syria when all will be over and done with.'
