GLOBAL THREAT An
excerpt When
the coded message from the American embassy in Teheran arrived the secretary of
state was on leave with his family, trying to console himself somehow after his
loss in the party's convention to his rival. A rival that had not the slightest
chance to win the presidential elections, but she was the party's choice not
him. The
message arrived at night time and as there was no one to pass to, the night
shift's crew preferred to leave it as it is till the next day. The
next morning the office was hardly manned, the secretary of state has not
returned yet from his leave, and all the office big shots were busy campaigning
and giving a hand to the party nominee all over the states; thus it was decided
by the duty officer to send the message to the president's National security
adviser. When the president woke up and came down to his
adviser's office she showed him the decoded message. 'I've
given them my answer and I don't intend to change my mind.' 'Shouldn't
we ask the few members of the national security council who're free to come and
analyze it?' 'Why
sit a second time over the same issue, would you suggest pulling out our naval
task force, just because the Iranians demand it?' She
shrugged her shoulders realizing how right he is. 'Alright
I'll see to it,' she said after a few seconds of hesitation. 'I'll send your
repeated answer to our Teheran embassy.' Her Smartphone rang suddenly; she
picked it up and raised it to her ear. 'It's
from John sir; he says they've launched two long range missiles into the Indian
Ocean.' She informed him excited. 'Oh
come on it isn't the first time that they're testing long range missiles…' But
that mad man Soleimani might attack our aircraft carriers sir, this is the
meaning of their message.' 'I'm
not buying it; they won't dare to attack our aircraft carriers or our bases in
the United Arab Emirates or Saudi Arabia. Our aircraft carriers are anchored in
the Persian Gulf since 2004, and it isn't their territorial waters; and except
futile provocations that didn't impress us they haven't done a thing, and they
didn't block the Hormuz Straights as they keep threatening.' 'There
was the drone case last week…' 'Well
that was an unintended accident, which happens once in a life time.' 'Shouldn't
we update the media about their demands and the missiles' launching?' 'No
there's no need to, and tell John to hush it up; and he should send my repeated
answer to our Teheran embassy not you, as poor Charlie is still on leave… It's
the second time that he loses...' He remarked with a gleeful smile and was glad
his day of work is over. © Haim
