A review plus a few excerpts of my eighth book 'A fateful opportunity'.

The
novelette "A fateful opportunity" that opens up my eighth book is a
gripping espionage thriller as far as I'm allowed to judge. Its word count is
8,288 words, while the entire book includes 11 additional short stories,
which have been written since the beginning of 2012. The entire book word
count is 23,810 words. I believe that my eighth book titled "A Fateful
Opportunity" represents my best creation along three decades' of writing experience .

My
eighth book "A fateful opportunity"
consists of a nine chapters espionage thriller novelette of 8,288 words plus
ananthology of short stories that I have written during the years 2012 and
2013.
The
novelette's protagonist is Boris Zinaiev a US citizen who was born in Russia and immigrated
with his parents at the age 7 years. He is a CIA agent and served under a
diplomatic cover in
various US embassies abroad. He is ordered to fly to Moscow as a secret agent
in a mission in which his part is to
distract the other side. He spends two weeksthere and on the eve of his
return he meets unexpectedly the FSP agents Ivan Vera, he realizes that his
true identity has been exposed; and he is
threatened indirectly by the two FSB agents that expect him to serve the Russian intelligence services. The short stories assembled in this book are dedicated to tales and adventures in the realm of intelligence and
espionage. The protagonists depicted in these short stories are secret agents, operators, and various anonymous figures behind the scenes that influence the lives of my short stories
protagonists.

But
what am I to do now after the failure of this mission, a mission that
contradicted everything I did and was used to before? I wasn't transferred to
some task force I still belong to the same unit, and was asked to take on
this mission just once; it was an emergency Dave said, and no one else was
available at that time. I'll have to ask to be sent to some forlorn hole with
a new identity, and with new features after a plastic surgery, that's the
only way I won't betray my own country. Whatever feelings I'd during these
two weeks can't change the fact that I'm an American citizen. But what if
they'll ask me to become a double agent, and stay most of the time in Russia.
It won't work they know too much details about me, and they surely wish to
get in touch again with my parents, make them work for them as they were
supposed to and for that purpose they were allowed to immigrate to Canada.
I'll have to tell Dave everything and ask to have an interview with Jason our
unit's head... With this conclusion Boris eased his troubled conscious and
managed to doze up to the landing in New York's LaGuardia airport.

He
went up to his room and shut himself in. He checked his luggage and hanged
his cloths in the cupboard, and put his shirts and underwear in the drawers.
It helped him to get over his despair and start using his brain again with
reason.
Dave
is a rotten apple he
suddenly realized with a wave of fear. They said I'll be contacted in
Washington and here comes Dave with instructions...
Time passed quickly and though he was not hungry he went down to have lunch
at the hotel's restaurant. He found it extremely hard still to believe his
own suspicions; he had better eat and think it over again he thought terribly
perturbed yet.
Back in his room things started to clear up while he checked his passport,
remembering that Dave did not ask him to give it to him, and go and settle
his entrance with the immigration authorities.

'What
if they'll ask me to pass a third degree interrogation, I don't know if I'm
able to stand torture...'
'We believe that your stay there as long as it would last would pass
smoothly. It depends on your behavior and your reactions, all you've to do it
to behave just as you did so successfully during the last couple of weeks
while you stayed there.' Dave made a short pause and pulled something from
his jacket inner pocket. 'Now before this waiter reaches our table, here's a
necklace that you'll present it as a gift to Alina; put it on your own neck,
that's what she expects to get from you.'
'You didn't answer my question Dave, what if I'll have to pass a third degree
interrogation?'
'Principally we don't think you'll have to, but you might and in such a case
you'll have to cope with it.'

A
few words about myself: being a native of a small country whose waist is
seventeen kilometers wide in a certain area; and in seven to eight hours
drive one can cross its length, I was amazed on my first tour abroad by the
vastness and distances I've met with. I could have seen it on maps much
earlier, that's true, but realizing it was a stunning experience. I visited
Africa East and West and was enchanted by the landscapes, the wildlife, the
rain forests, its diverse population; I've visited Europe and was awed and
inspired by humanity's achievements, the richness of culture and tradition;
the museums, the cathedrals, the architecture old versus modern. I've learned
the meaning of what a masterpiece is, spending hours before huge incredibly
beautiful paintings and sculpture; wondering how on earth they have managed
to do it. The huge cities, the way of life the beautiful languages, the
customs, it left its marks on me and is the cause no doubt to my own efforts
and to what I'm trying to reach up to this very day
.
My interest in art and literature isn't limited to enjoying it as a
bystander. I've had five art exhibitions in my country, served as an art
critic and I'm a published author. I've published three collection of short
stories: 'The unveiling', 'The Red Square' and 'Some facts of life'; and four
novels; 'An African sunset', 'The remote control', 'The death sciences' and
'Summer tempest' with Amanzon Kindle.
