Boarding up

Boarding up

A Poem by hjcm

I like it better this way

just because it’s easier.

No mistakes to make, no gains,

no chance of accidental

offence. That won’t happen now.

There can’t be an apology

because you won’t care for one,

and I could sing until I’m blue in the heart,

but you wouldn’t change your mind.

I’ll eat seeds one by one.

It’s easier on you

if I hide my face while I’m sad

and use a tarnished spoon from the cupboard

rather than venturing into the kitchen.

I’m not ready for that, so hush and let me sleep.

A shade of listlessness never felt so invariably pertinent and gruesome.
