Butterfly

Butterfly

A Poem by hjcm

She has bones like birds’;

stepping into the stream of water and letting it all fall

over her, she wishes for someone to comb her hair for her

and soothe her tangled thoughts into liquid silk.

Last night’s bruises glow darkly under

the surface of her skin.

Her angles are all fragile. A sudden, thoughtless

movement; with a single clasp the butterfly can be

broken, her wings crushed to threads and a fluttering

motion silenced into a twitching, wordless pain.

It happens too fast for you to correct

your deadly mistake.
