Do that which is appropriate

Do that which is appropriate

A Poem by hjcm

Filling up for the sake of it:

Like when there’s a box and all you

Have to say is one short comment,

But the box mostly stays empty.

You feel those words are not enough.

New stanza. Capital letter

At the start of each new line, break-

Ing a word to fit eight sylla-

Bles. You’re not feeling the poem,

It’s writing itself according

To some rule someone made up or

Told you once and it’s become law.

Or maybe it’s an arbitra-

Ry rule just like the niceties

Of conversation - those which I

Hold dear. I like using the right

Spoon for the right purpose. Perhaps

I’m posh or proper or anal

About cutlery. I sound so

Life-weary, but really, I’m fine.

I've read a few of your poems - I really like your voice in them but this is a favourite. I know you say in your profile that most are unedited but I strongly believe that you have a talent which would benefit from some self-critique - this poem proves that you have much that would really entertain and make people sit, to listen.
