Minus three

Minus three

A Poem by hjcm

the difference between midnight and black

spread out in a degree

across the whole dome of sky above

and the street lights sodium and

glaring

my vision limit

the moon and stars above

bedim the small detail my eyes can distinguish

cold sets in between fibres of glove and

on lips just moistened

but my cough is warm and tears my chest

over sparkling ground my feet tread

and the laughs are far behind my

frozen path

at least there is oxygen

even if it is malicious against my throat

and condenses plumes of shortened breath I walk

in monochrome grass pavement road

gleaming

and showing me to the radiant unlocked door

Absolutely loved this. THe diction is marvelous and the ideas represented by perfectly chosen words are f*****g dolorous as can be. I repeat, I absolutely loved this.

I doubt I understand the meaning behind it, but the imagery you give is wonderful. The darkness against your eyes, the lights, the snow on the ground and the cold burning in your throat... the title in my head sounds like temperature, negative three degrees (no matter, metric or standard... that's still pretty cold) and it gives me the feeling of being alone, trying to find some place that's warm. Great write.
