The Girl I Used To BeA Poem by Courtney ElizabethAs I walk into the dark evening, rain pouring onto my skin, tears adding to the wetness, I walk down the road as cars drive by me, as the water from their tires splash onto my pant legs. I put my head up, facing the sky as the rain drops come falling down, I think about the rain drops, how they 're so free, free to fall and fade with no hell to go through, no one to listen to, or not listen to. I think how it would be like, to be as free as the rain is... As I approach the lake I watch as the raindrops hit the water. I watch the water ripples go in and out, as new fallen rain hits the surface. I go onto the slippery dock and look into the water. I see myself, or who I thought was me. I look deeper and deeper into my reflection. I see something, or someone. The girl I used to be. The girl who cared about other peoples hearts, the girl who listened to other peoples words, the girl who did what she was taught to do, the girl I used to be.
