Past, Future, Present

Past, Future, Present

A Poem by Courtney Elizabeth

As I walk down the road,

Into the dark night that lies before me,

as the rain comes down on my soft face,

I think.

I think of the past,

I think of the future,

I think of the present.

I feel a dark, deep depression fall onto me.

As I walk past the houses on both sides of me,

I feel inclosed,

I feel breathless,

I feel empty.

I approach the village store.

I look into the dark, hallow windows of the store.

The depression gets worse.

I think of that day.

That day when it was not rainy like this one,

but felt like it completely.

I think of how I felt that day,

how my heart suddenly sunk into the earth and simply dissolved.

I can't take back that day,

and change the past and how it went,

but I can defiantly control the future,

how it turns out,

and how it goes...
