Mister Soldier

Mister Soldier

A Poem by Lonely Pen

Another war to fight;
Got my weapons and courage.
Suddenly, I nearly step on a body
Of a child. Think she's five.
She's dying while calling out
With all her might and whimper.
Her voice, almost vanishing,
Is begging me though softly,
"Mister Soldier,
Take me somewhere . . .
A place where peace surrounds,
Where love and not war is before me.
Where can I hide from this chaos?
I've lost everything and this life might end
Without even seeing a beautiful place.
Please take me somewhere . . .
Somewhere where there is
No bloodshed, no enmity;
Such noise and smoke terrified me.
Take me somewhere where there is peace.
Could there be a place like that?
Could there be a place with no suffering?
No screaming out of fear and despair
No killing and fighting
No lives torn apart such way?
Take me out of this war, Mister Soldier.
I promise to value harmony."

I suppose she wants to tell me more
But, she has sighed her last breath already.
I close her weary eyes, then,
With my wounded hand.
I response, as tears fall down,
Down to her innocent face,
"Don't worry kid . . .
You are going to that place now;
Where no more tears nor sorrow,
Only joy and serenity and beauty . . .
God will welcome you, child,
In that place called heaven.
Your sufferings are over now
Not yet with us. But worry not
God is with us.
Sleep well, okay? And when you realize it,
You are already in that place
The place you have always dreamed of.
I know, God is holding your hand
As He takes you there.
Smile at me, then."
