the long haul

the long haul

A Poem by his better half

Since I was nineteen years old
I have loved the same man
He has seen me through so much
Never once has he let go of my hand

I could stand on my own two feet then
These days that’s sometimes hard to do
I could walk without problem
So much I have put him thru

He has never once complained
Even though I suspect he never dreamed
Marring someone who was to turn out like me
Wasn’t part of his life scheme

I think God knew the kind of man I would need
One who would love me and understand it all
Someone who would be there for me with support
He has been here for the long haul

We’ve will be married 20 years come July
And I’ve been with him since I was eighteen
We are still going strong
And he’s still the man of my dreams
