Magnificent DesolationA Story by Hipster DetectiveThoughts of an empty playground at midnight. "Beautiful! Beautiful! Magnificent desolation." ~~Buzz Aldrin We stood in the parking lot of the local elementary school, having just come from the playground. The kid who had asked us for a cigarette while singing to himself was on the swings, most likely baked out of his mind. The moon was almost full and it hung low over the orange brick building. The parking lot sloped ever so slightly under the glare of the streetlights and I tossed a rock on the hopscotch courts, not really feeling like playing, but needing to do something. I looked out on our kingdom, that pitch-black land, that desolate wasteland, and thought it beautiful.
