Bhagiratha's Plea

Bhagiratha's Plea

A Poem by A.A.Romanczuk

Tripathaga

Maa Ganga

Daughter of Himavan

Darling of the Devas

Fleeting sheet of silver

Charm morphed into

Cosmic danger

As She arrogantly

Crashed through the firmament

Amused by Brahma’s request

Thinking none could restrain

Her

She fell

She fell

Dashing onto Nilakanta’s blessed head

He was unmoved

She was trapped in Lord Siva’s hair

A spec lost in all that is He

All of Her thrashing

Could not set Her free

Bhagiratha worshipped Mahadeva

Kind-hearted Mahadeva

Set Her free

Drop by drop

Ganga fell from

A single strand of Siva’s hair

Onto the Himalaya

Onto the Himalaya

From which

She split into seven paths

The last following

Bhagiratha

Towards Patala

To end the curse

On the Ikshvaku line

Bhagirathi Ganga

Purified for the

Third time by Siva

Occupying Her ancestral home

Cleanses all with Her

Crystalline presence.

Beautiful...I love to read ancient stories that show our relationship to the earth.

This is so enriching and vast in feel.. That sense is created of the ancient, yet timeless world, all alive in a beautiful wildness. Loved your imagery!
