YesterdayA Story by highwallsIt seems like yesterday. When we would sit under the black sky, asking questions about the universe. Questions that wouldn't or couldn't be answered. It seems like yesterday. When I ran four blocks just to tell you I was chosen to attend the art school I had with so much hope applied to. When you looked at me with the same enthusiasm as the one I'd had when I opened the mail. But then realized my dream was miles away from yours. Yet you didn't want to ruin mine. It seems like yesterday. When we spend our last summer together. Going all over our hometown. The places where we played as kids. The places we thought were our refuge. Where we went when we couldn't stand the world no more. Our favorite one was the roof of the abandoned motel. Because we thought the stars seemed closer from there. And when we realized it was too late we ran down, and back to our houses. Laughing during the process. And the town seemed ours from the whole silence. Our laughs breaking through it. It seems like yesterday. When you helped me pack my things. Loading them into the trunk of the car I'd saved money for last summer, and that summer. You hugged me, and told me to never forget. And I thought you were silly. Because I wasn't planning in losing contact with you. And I was definitely not planning in forgetting. Yet, now I know what you meant. And now I ask myself what happened to our yesterdays? When we questioned the world. When we thought the town was ours. When our voices would break the sometimes unavoidable silence. I'm writing this now from the top of the motel roof. Where the stars seem closer. Since the stars are closer here, and they are connected to you, I feel you closer too. Maybe one day, you too will remember our yesterdays with as much happiness as I do. No matter how far away we may be.
