If you don't know Odilon Redon or George De Chirico you should do. Symbolism, Surrealism, all here but tied with something more A desperate but incredibly rich and darkly beautiful use of words that fit the darkest and yet most illuminating place. A startling poem.

My inspiration was a bit darker than that. The shadows...the mischievous monsters that hide in our hearts and minds. I wanted to tap into that, the fear of death, the fear of seeing hell in the flesh. I wanted the reader to feel uncomfortable. I wanted to venture into a forbidden world of misery.
seriously though, your clever and consistent use of language to convey a feeling is never more evident than here, your exquisite play on the scene in a way only you could capture..devilishly delightful
Wow! All I keep saying is WOW! This was dark and foreboding. It was macabre and sullen. I was shaken by the words you used and the construction of this dark masterpiece. Great write!
Nine Inch Nails FTW!!!! But this is a very great piece especially the line, "Etiquette has the pig open wide, consuming all that forgot to wear the settlement." You're very talented!
amazing piece of art...painting included. i have come to expect nothing less than perfect metaphor and incredible imagery of your writes. wonderful and masterfully penned.
brilliantly dark- this detailed & intricate piece of work keeps me sinfully wanting to read on, wishing for more- knowing that your next line will be even more provocative than the last. You have an amazing talent- Thank you for sharing this incredibly twisted peice. Love it!
"Humanity
dissolved by the BEAST; leaving
the remnants of hope in a bottomless bowl. It's
quivering lip bites at another jowl. Attending devils,
just hackle and howl."
obviously very dark, but it defines that darkness and evokes imagery of hell and evil in a way I've never seen before. honestly reading this I felt like I was taking a guided tour of hell led by a very precise and twisted romantic. Damn I literally got the chills up my back when you write:
Picking, peeling apart, the flesh of forgotten dreams.
A piracy of ruins; filled
with laughing skulls that cannot scream!
I have a taste for the macabre , so I do like this! "The high court below, sampling every acquired soul"...Nice flair!
Dante would love this stuff! Deliciously dark!!
Ironic....it was John Milton's Paradise Lost and Dante that inspired this write. :)

Beth, you have a knack for the eerie that just impresses me no end. I've known few if any writers who could so salaciously express the inexpressible, so that one is unsure whether to chew his nails, giggle nervously, or dive into a hole and pull it in on top of himself, with the same ease as yourself. I cannot even find a "favorite line", such a popular avocation here, as they each flow into the next so smoothly as to appear seamless.
I MUST know whose painting this is, though; I have spent the last hour on Google searching "Hieronymous Bosch", "depictions of Hell", and related, without success. HELP!

So when I write about stuff like this..I'm writing from experience, a very real fear that I once felt...and still visits me in a nightmare once in a great while. So the response you speak of is appropriate..when scared some of us hide...some of us cry..the rest of us just share a nervous laugh. I'm not saying that these fears aren't warranted...but I know I'm one of the select few that dares to take a look into this hellish world..I don't want to live there..I just want to peek "a curiosity thing" you know?
