Coming Home - A Song

Coming Home - A Song

A Poem by Hunter Hoburg
"

Lyrics to a song I'm writing

"
It's been months since I saw you through
Anything but a bottle
It's been years, six long years
Since I poured over my bible
Sometimes when I can't sleep
I think of you and weep
Sometimes when I can't think
I picture you and want a drink
Just like a dog, you trained me well
You taught me to think of you
Whenever I heard a cathedral bell
Jaded glass, I touch my flask and
Hear it empty and so I pass to
Missing you and missing me and
Everything we used to be

It's not your fault
That I'm not happy
It's not like you didn't try
To tell me to walk on by

You said I'm weak tenth time this week
You said something you'd regret
I'll drown liver, forget it all
Imagine what I could have said
My heart is sore from all the wars
We have over the phone
I'll call you back and you'll attack
Maybe I should leave you alone
I bought a ticket for you
Now I'm sitting on the train
Months ago, I knew I'd lost you
Now I'll cross the world in vain

It's not your fault
But damnit did you even try?
It's not my fault
I'm coming home to hear you lie

The chance I gave up, the people I loved
All gone so I could hold your hand
I'm on my way to not love you
You're on your way to your next man
If I can't find a girl like you
I'll find a drink and love her too
What else can I really do
When no one else is truly you

It's not your fault
But damnit did you even try?
You let me walk here
And didn't let me inside
It's not your fault
But damnit did you even try
Telling me what you really think
While looking me in the eye?
It's not your fault
But damnit did you even try
Thinking of that kind of love
You won't get from another guy?
It's not your fault
Damnit I shouldn't have tried
Now I'm standing in the cold
Trying to hitch a ride

This has a very nice rhythm to it... almost like someone just sittin back telling me a story that I get lost in... By the end I was caught up in the emotions and left me with a feeling of yea it hurts but so what..... I REALLY liked the last stanza... good job!

This is really good! I like the rhyme scheme.

I thought overall it was really good. The rhyming was good, and the overall message of the song was sad, but well-written. I thought there were a few lines where the rhyming could have been better-such as "wars" and "phone."
