Smokey Snakes

Smokey Snakes

A Poem by Hunter Hoburg

I fought so hard for twelve long months

Staved off hunger, scorned the hunts

Smokey snakes found us so near

With full faith we held them dear

So close we grew that I wed you

In my mind a jubilant brew

Love-drunk daydreams pushed me on

Obtuse and blind just moving along

You moved with haste, and I fell away

An empty deck, like me, decayed

Waiting longer, lengthy nights

For you to return and to turn on the lights

To join me in hunting, and join me in chase

Finding each other 'midst smokey snakes.
