WildA Poem by Abi Heywood
Your words are knives dragging across these cage bars
enclosing the creature within, each scrape of metal upon metal, the chink of blade upon bar you chastised me for my words unlike you who continues to screech and grind on the very fibers of my being, though tamed like your pet -I am wild- detaching my jaw to scream, spitting venom, melting the image of a memory destroying what once was, but that was not me, my dear, this is your doing, you released the furious fire from beneath my skin, erupted each element of emotion to flow with anger and tears: how different are the promises we made, why, now, do I weep fiery rivers at your name, but the creature within no longer sleeps your chinking and scraping and grinding and screeching has stirred her from peace heed my every warning for the wild within is released. So run my dear.
