Observation of Analysis

Observation of Analysis

A Poem by Abi Heywood

Most pensive are her eyes
which stare through words to perceive
meanings and themes
in motifs, metaphors,
in alliteration.

The turn of the page;
unable to resist her
touch as they roll and fold between finger and thumb.
Grazing the language
once scribbled, scrawled now printed
with dark arrows of analysis
annotations of volta, couplets
of alliteration.

The attraction is repetitive it seems,
to knowledge, understanding and the mere articulation
of the vowels and consonants in alliteration.

The true motivation and thoughts of
an author, poet or playwright are unknown,
but we long to know...

What made them write of love,
of attraction,
of secret emotions?

What made them douse and disguise meaning with alliteration?
