New York CityA Poem by Tony Hwilka9/11/2001Being up most of the night with my son of six weeks. Jan my wife awakens me with a kiss -- alarm had no effect.
When I arrived for work in Tower One I was tired. Sitting alone thinking how good it will be to sleep tonight.
Interrupted by a flash before my next thought body gone -- my mind afloat in an ocean of flame and smoke.
Within a second I cross beyond into a dream I need to explore bodies and concrete intertwined smell of fuel so strong my mind does not comprehend the confusion of dead people screaming.
I was taught to be calm focus on happiness and time will change its tune.
From out of the smoke death will not be in vain I see our Country's Flag still waving.
