Land of My Father

Land of My Father

A Poem by Tony Hwilka
"

Trovli 10 word contest

"

I am a boy from the mountain

where my family settled.

I leave saying farewell to all I love

hoping they do not forget me.

Our Army calls to fight the enemy

that has conquered most of our nation.

Families adandon their homes crying

as we fight village to village

town to town, city to city

pushing the enemy back

to the wasted desert from which they came.

Will we ever be able as poets not to write war poems? Who can say. I like your poem, tony.

nicely done, Tony. the poem shows a balance of desperation and belonging.
two emotional states that you have successfully pressed together with words. tovli
