EscapeA Poem by Kasey NicholeEscape The trees swayed like a fortress, its branches, my castle. With each sun rise, my hopes rose with it, and with each sun down, they fell. Behind the castle walls of the daises, the fairy's laughed and danced, and with the rich soil of the earth, the flowers grew and flourished. In my soul, anxiety grew, making me tired and weary, the soft whimsical singing of the wind, and the rough, yet calming chorus of the seven seas, calmed me. I would close my eyes for hours, never forgetting the beauty which lay on the other side. feeling the warmth of the sun's sweet rays, kissing my face, and the palms of my hands. My mother would tell me "Sweet child," "Your throwing away your life," the one and only life. I preferred to live, high in hope in spirit, with my head in the clouds, my feet attempting to fly. Even though i never took flight, there was something reassuring, faith. Only using the stones as my table, the wind's whistle as my music, the sweet rain as my bath, to cleanse my heart and soul. This, was truly my escape.
