Song of MyselfA Poem by Kasey NicholeInspired by Walt Whitman! It started
with the reminiscing, The
photographs, the memories, It began with
the bittersweet element of time, As it taunted
me, always ticking, Never seizing,
or gaining minutes. Constantly
losing, slipping away, I ran through
life like it was a race, but what was the prize? And then it
happened, I saw the
light, the light that shined brighter than any star, Than any sun
or moon. I realized
that life was a gift, to always be cherished and cared for, With the same
attention a young child deserves. But if life
was a gift, what was it wrapped in? Some may say
the answer is unknown, never to be found, But with
growing in age, in intelligence and wit, The answer is
made clear. When a person
receives a gift, anticipation fills their hearts, They wish to
know what is inside, What prize
they can expect next. With life, the
wrapping is quite the same. With every
second we are given, our goal is to live life to the fullest, Free of fear,
of regret or loss, To make it to
the finish line unscathed. However, we
will never find out what is inside the present, For life is
constantly changing, and the future is never set in stone.
