Teenage Problem

Teenage Problem

A Poem by Plagued Monumentally

"Who are you?" The person reflected in the mirror asks,
"I'm the person you wish to be, but you hide under those masks."
If I could be like that,
maybe some people would stop referring to me as fat.

I close my eyes, stepping in your shoes for a couple moments,
maybe then people would stop all of these torments.
But then I open my eyes, realizing that your shoes are filled.
By you.

This deals with one problem, so the title was a bit misleading. However, you deal with the problem very well. I love the resolution at the end that the speaker is finally comfortable with who they are, whether they are socially acceptable or not. This is therefore a very relatable write, and quite raw.

Sweet right!

The simplicity of this poem works really well, as it doesn't try to be too many things at once. You get a simple message and communicate it so effectively. Reading this takes me through the things that the person in the poem would think to themselves, and the distress that they go through.

The simplicity of this poem makes the message within it stand out even more than if it were lengthened. It is inspiring, and very relatable, which are two important factors in a piece of writing, in appealing to those that read it. Lovely work.

I really like the transgression and the movement of this piece. Forcing you to think about the steps you've taken.
