A poem.....not a story, God forbid for Devons contest. Hope it doesn't offend....too much.

Bookstore Revelations

The stench of impurity upon my breath

A wrinkled suit, a too small vest

A head so full of evil thought

My life was sin and I’d been caught

I walked to the store to buy a book

Quick redemption to release the hook

Barnes and Noble had them there

Between two sections I stop and stare

There were Godly words in the religious section

Guaranteed to cleanse me of my infection

The cult section bled with similar fare

But according to some, Satan lived there

Two sections of belief, and I couldn’t tell

Which of the collections would save me from hell

So in frustration I turned, my ears spouting steam

And picked up a copy of Penthouse magazine

Well... I think you really hit the nail on the head about much of religion... not all, but certainly much and in general. Must say, I do love that last line. So much thrown at us that most do just want to give up and say to "hell" with it. Enjoyable piece, and definitely one to think about as well.

Beliefs and religion cause so many arguements and fights. No-one knows who's right until we die, so long as you don't harm others just live and let live!
Nice poem =P

*grins* this reads to me like an old country western song that wasn't made, but should've been.

I refrain ... abstain ...
okay... you just read the articles, right? lol
From God, to Satan, to Nudity. Quite the swing! :)
Perfectly rhymed and well crafted.

This was GREAT. I loved the satirical wit in this, especially in the last line. The rhythm was tight, the rhyming scheme was flawless and subtle. Great job there. The word choice was excellent-- not super basic words, but didn't detract from the piece as some people do. (When they all try to sound intelligent, but end up making themselves look like idiots)
Wonderful job. :)

Well I guess you just had an itch that you had to scratch. Why not the poetry section? Cute poem.

Firstly the poem: great and good, metered and full of fine phrases, you as ever finding the right place for everything .. 'There were Godly words in the religious section ~ Guaranteed to cleanse me of my infection ~ The cult section bled with similar fare ~ But according to some, Satan lived there '

As to the content, what we believe is what we are to self and others. Religion is another word for an -ology subject; our personal ethics in life, the doing unto others and having self-respect is what matters.

The ending was/is cheeky, a touch of cut and thrust and, don't dare me !

Hehehe....
Nice choice! Everyone picks what they feel is right to them.

The old and gold primordial battle of good and evil, God and Satan, battle of the big conflicts...This is one work that strikes a direct chord with me...U might like my work-"Sweet Split"...
Yours is a great stuff! a deep underlying agnostic angst..and something more..
Love and regards~
