Left Wanting

Left Wanting

A Poem by Crowley

Like gum that has lost it's flavor, color, softness

I take to the street in search of a friend to tell me to spit it out

Pale skin and lackluster hair make others take a wide berth

I could be a good fellow, taking your dog to the park for you

Sending you articles about your favorite bands or recipes

But, first I must get close enough to say hello

If you all have enough friends, no room for one more

Then the rest of my life may be like the longest motor vehicle line ever

Even if I got a good number, in the lobby, people can't see me

And when my number is finally called, I am too nervous to approach the desk

So, I take another, feeling as though waiting is at least something to do

Something to do, something to do, something to do

It’s hard not to be annoying when you are so desperate

I haven't used the word loneliness because it conjures demons

People don't want lonely people to be their friends, so I pretend to just be dull

Some people like dull friends, because it’s good to be King, even with one subject

I would take the role of subject as long as it meant I had a place

I would be happy if you just told me that my eyes didn't match

I am not complaining, just wondering if you like my new shoes

My thoughts exactly. I am more of an extrovert, so I find companionship fairly easily. But I have a few friends who have a very hard time and it makes me sad. It seems like the harder they try the farther away they move. Thank you so much for taking the time to read. I appreciate it!!

Feeling lonely is natural and a good thing to admit. Sometimes it's hard to find our place in this world and even moreso in someone's life.. but if you are meant to be then I say speak up and show yourself because you would be he exception to the rule. Being submissive and wanting to be a subject rather than some idol is very attractive to many people. I wish you the best in finding companionship. It's never easy. And it usually happens without expecting it.

The analogy to gum that lost its flavor, color, softness is brilliant and I could relate this to so many people and relationships. My heart went out to this person, not really wanted anywhere. I have been here some time in my life and I must say it wasn't a happy place to be. At such times, one tends to try hard to fit in, try hard to belong, if only to someone who absolutely doesn't deserve us. Such a realistic and beautiful portrait drawn of a person at such a sad station of life. Yet, I can't help adding that all is passing. A lonely square today may be full of laughter and friendly people tomorrow.

That last line is a killer. I read this a few times and there is something that is haunting about greed and the quest of more.

Thanks duff!
You remind me of the lukewarm gum Jesus spat out of his mouth because he preferred hot or cold. I always wanted to ask him, what the hell did you expect from a buffet ?

I love those new shoes, can you dance in them? I can't dance in my old ones or my boots for that matter. I heard there was a thing called the "boot scootin' boogie" but I only made it as far as the barstool. So I just planted my a*s on that and picked up a guitar. I play for tips on guitar playing. (laughing) My old account got screwed, tattooed, hacked and tacked to a missing child and wanted poster underneath. So now, I have this fresh new beauty. I couldn't even close my old account but after much effort I was able to delete all my writing from there. Bless my little points standings if they didn't hijack all my awards and groups and friends. They can have the superfluous but I'd like to keep my WC pals. I enjoyed the read, old friend. F.

Your welcome...lol. Thanks bunny.
For those of us with enough, or perhaps even a surfeit, (if one can have to many,) of friends, this is a cold reality check that echoes for so many people.

Last line says it all.

Maybe they see the green eyed monster in your matching shoes and eyes, while you are looking at your shoes for fear offending someone's not quite as matching eyes.
Everything is just opinion, I often reply when people point out my socks don't match. I politely tell them I don't go by colour, just thickness, and inwardly hope that is an interesting enough answer for them, while somehow forgetting I can't use that reply for my one sneaker and one snowboot. 😊
But on the plus side, I usually get a sidewalk all to myself 😊

Lol... I can actually see that Lorry! Thank you kind sir!
I had to read again Crowley. New shoes are cool, gum on shoe. Not so good. I like being alone now. I worked retail for 25 years. I seek the quiet of the lake and the forest. Thank you my friend for sharing the amazing poetry. Made my old mind ponder tonight.
