A Poem by Crowley
"

Just thoughts...not autobiographical

"
I have taken steps to remedy my situation
I drink so much more, smoke unfiltered cigarettes non-stop, kick adorable puppies
Still, I am unable to disgrace myself suitably to hit "rock bottom"
I dream of that watery depth, just enough light to panic
Pushing off of the black silt bottom with both feet
Breaking the surface just before my lungs burst
And there you are...
Reaching to pull me out and administer aid and succor
There was a time in this world when being worthless counted against you
I long for that displacement
I long to be free

When you hit rock bottom you have no further way to fall. The only way then is up. That:s not a great place to be to start climbing. That:s what I call mountain climbing. Takes huge courage. Brevity which speaks volumes.

This reminds me of a quote I've seen somewhere: "They say nothing is impossible. I hope they are wrong. Some day, I'd like to achieve nothing." That'd be freedom, right? This poem presents us with an nteresting perspective.

You have too nice a smile for this to be autobiographical, :)), nevertheless, there is inevitably a grain of truth that will surface whenever a poet puts pen to paper.

Really like this, 'tis adorably introspective.

Not sure if this is the poet 'talking' or the man. Whichever, the human behind the words understands how it is to feel life has what.. meaning or .. emptiness.. almost but.. not quite .. A loss of self in a loss of place. And yet.. there could be, might be someone who can, who will, hold out a hand.. if perhaps you need it. Sometimes its wondering whether it's easier to give in.. than.. whatever clouds your sky.. man or poet. Or woman, if it comes to that.

As I write a book about my family barely 20 years ago, even that recently, kids were allowed much more freedom than nowadays & my readers comment on how shocking it is to think about how loose it used to be, so unregulated, so dangerous, so free. I can't get started on this topic or I'll go on a tirade, but let it suffice to say your msg really strikes a nerve with me (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

it's that moment when your soul is so full...tears spill like a filled sink....there is no other place to fill.....its overflow ... an empty mirage.

I think I know what You mean, there is that breathtaking overwhelming moment which comes after the complete breakdown, when You feel there is nothing to feel anymore, nothing to dream or live or breathe for... then suddenly comes a moment turning everything upside down, like a death and rebirth, it is like that moment when the baby takes its first living breath, no moment is like that one... and You long to taste it, to feel what it feels like to be alive after feeling dead.

I often wish some people would kick me out, do away with me but the worse I get the nicer they become. If rock bottom brings freedom then I'm all for it haha! So nicely said Crowley!

Sometimes we need to hit rock bottom before we can be free. The speaker here says someone is there to pull him out and "administer aid and succor." The referred to party is not named. It could be a person; could also mean some spiritual power.
