Idealistic Summer

Idealistic Summer

A Story by Crowley

     This year’s answer...disenfranchisement.
     Last year’s answer...disenfranchisement.
Every second, every day, every year...disenfranchisement.

“What is this greater good you talk about father?”

     “You wouldn’t understand.”

“Father you are a lonely man, he, is a lonely man.  I am a poor child father; they have poor children. Mother is dead in your eyes and more importantly in your heart even though she did her best to care for us.  I ask again, what is the greater good?”

Eyes, slipping like feet off moss covered river rocks.

     “Is it numbers father?”

     “Is it color father?”

     “Is it wealth?”

He replied, but it was the wrong answer.

     “All of those and more.”

I left that day, humbled by humanities weakness. I spent time searching for my own Bodhi tree, my own magic, emotional salve. The universe understood my mission, though I was a lifetime of experiences from any real understanding.

On a rainy day in a small market in Riverside, an answer came to me. I walked home, crying for my father and all of mankind.

“Father I have returned, can you see me?”

     “Yes. Very clearly.”

     “How are you father?”

     “Disenfranchised.”

“I am sorry father.  We will work on it together.”

it took time read and to trip to understand yet i think good write love how you can play the words
This feels like a common thought for me as I often ask, "What am I working towards?" or even a frequent, "What's the point." As we continue to work and live our lives we pick up on the things that motivate us to propel us forward, but if there is no motivation there is no movement. It's an interesting topic and allows the mind to wander off on other people or things that have been disenfranchised and what that history itself looks like. Great write!

We know in youth, until age and health and what could've beens knock seven kinds of shi...omething out of us and the rose tinted glasses shatter on the ground. Then we make do with telling the next generation how wrong they're doing it and use tuts and grumbles in place of words... And I can't wait until it's my turn 😉
No matter what the year brings, let's hope once more with feeling that no, can't bring myself to say it, will cross fingers knees and toes instead and wishy think it instead 😉

I read your poem to suggest that being disenfranchised isn't something that belongs to our current times. Lots of groups have been disenfranchised over the centuries & we don't notice until it becomes our own vote, our own power, that's being squelched. Nice to have this issue framed in a thought-provoking way rather than the usual blathering screeds. Here's to a happier new year perhaps! Hope it includes plenty of your words shared here, my friend! (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie
