The Good Eye

The Good Eye

A Poem by Crowley

It was that one eye of yours that thrilled me so
A brown so deep I could see the origination of the big bang
Not that your other eye wasn't beautiful, it sparkled
But, at night I think of the good eye I and shudder with delight
If you were a pirate, you could cover the good eye
And if you fell in love, remove the patch before making love the first time
Oh how that would spoil your lover, how he would stare
The two of you would ride the light, never noticing the stars
Unless they reflected in the good eye

In the line you mention ed big bang all I could think about is the tv show.. Their cringey voices. Great piece of writing.

This is the height of imagination. I am so jealous of you & other writers who write totally off the wall & do it in a way that's so convincing, we overlook the audacity and get sucked right in. For years I had a young friend in Pakistan with a glass eye & it's hard not to mentally note the difference. If only people could be this open & accepting about our parts that are not fitting the mold, as if it's a delightful aberration with ups & downs. This is a poem, not just of tolerance . . . but to encourage us to have fun with our quirks & love other people for their differences, not just enduring them despite! (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

Hmmmm.... interesting. I was drawn to this because I have brown eyes and only recently have started to like them. Does she have two different color eyes?

It's fine! You're welcome!
you had me at big bang
and held me til the stars reflected back
i'm a sucker for the cosmic
what can i say
this is awesome though
not contrived
but simple, honest, and imaginative
like the image of this enigmatic pirate
shrouding a beautiful eye
saving it to reflect the cosmos for her lover
they say if you have it flaunt it
and yet here you have her going the other way
i love that
and the idea of duality
like a perfect half
a perfect eye
the other is just ok
sweet little write
nicely done

Like the eye on the dollar bill . . . . love is one good eye looking into another one good eye . . . love dies when we open both eyes and see each other as only human. Interesting piece, C

Very good, the eyes and mind are something that one could write forever about.

reading this again, after talking to you about the Beats...i thought of Robert Creeley with his patch...and one good eye...
but his heart had two good eyes with which to write his poetry...
"pain is a flower
like that one
like this one
like that one
like this one..."

Lol...I totally forgot about that!!! I love it!!!
Ah, those moments that we can be stunned into silent awe, even at the memory of seeing the depth of that one's orb, like a gateway to their mind and soul.
So elegantly stated Sir, that must have been some set of peepers she had. 😀

I think the good eye is the one that favors us (more than we might favor it). It's the one closest to us, the one we see most clearly on the pillow next to us. Brown eyes are so unrated. I find natural beauty in the brown, maybe the origination of life or love.

Still untangling this one in my mind, but I can hear this conversation... well, probably a silent monologue, as the imagination fills in the darkness. :)
