Unprepared

Unprepared

A Poem by Crowley

He hated that tidings of war crashed the night owl’s party with grim news of certain death

But even the most inebriated deserved to know about the ensuing slaughter

They half listened and decided nothing could be done til’ morning

And the party swayed on beneath the trees, the stars disinterested

When the sun’s rays trumpeted a new dawn, the same reality awoke

The festivities, ill timed in hindsight, had left their mark on minds

And the stench of the end of time, weighed heavily on shapeless bosoms

Context is king and a moment is defined by passing thoughts of blood

Unprepared is a good way to die, then there is an excuse

I am not sure what that means for the afterlife and a sobering God

Waking to the screams of the children and the barking of the dogs

Letting the wave roll over a pre apocalyptic hangover seemed like a fitting end

First, my dander is up becuz I hate war & violence. I have to push past my utter disgust for the way war & military might is glorified in this country (and it sometimes feels like war worship is demanded of us), thus why I can only manage to quietly thank those who've done the actual sacrificing & sometimes I forget to do that. Now, about your poem. You make many powerful points, but the one that really hit me was how you imply that there is no URGENCY to any of this, for the people making the decisions. What's one more day or one more month of slaughter? We'll get there when we get there. They should just be grateful the greatest military power on earth is coming to their aid. I'm sorry your poem just blew up my carefully contained cynicism (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

ironically this morning not 10 minutes ago...I was talking about a private rapture and wrote it down on a piece of paper:) LOL I was listening to a remark made by Mike Pompeo about politics being a constant struggle until the rapture and I responded to him I would like to give him a "private rapture" oh these times we are living thru Crowley:(

Lol, you and me both. Seems we have similar thoughts on the situation. Thanks BB!!!
Sounds like the introduction to a scary time that we all would just as soon never happen. It's interesting that the party goes on even though death is just around the corner. Though we live in a troubled world . . . we are always unprepared for the evil that comes our way. Interesting piece my friend . . . as usual.

sobering my friend ... sobering indeed ... whether war or no brings death ... not certain how prepared plays into it .. your poem captures the horror that all war is .. no matter the need ... no soldier will say it is glorious in any way ... collateral damage always has a part ..in some eras and places its deliberate .. pity the passage of time has not evolved the greed, avarice and violence out of the hearts of humans .. pity tho if it did .... always there would be one .. who wants to take and rule ... the scene of a drunken party, in my opinion, is powerful and brings it home ... fine social commentary Crowley ... worthwhile and effective in my mind

It's become like a Play Station war game. The flickering images on the TV screen; the nightly news, only serving to numb us, divorce us from reality and insulate us from the screams of the children.

CLR9, asks, why god? why? Why indeed!

It's ugly for sure. Thanks Beccy!!! CLR9 review was pretty good!
It is far easier to deny anything beyond death, just like the nothing before birth, as little old unbeliever me already knows he is fucked the minute the beardy guy in the clouds puts my greatest hits compilation in the dvd player.
Thereis only one thing worse than i can think of and that is having to sit through it with a deathly hangover.
But perhaps before he gives me my F-, he/she/it can explain all the killing and child abuse carried out by loyal followers.
Im sure the rosaries will be rattling at my heathen comments, which is unintentional, but so enjoyable.
Its me going to the bad fire, you were only watching 😀
