The Square Root of Pi

The Square Root of Pi

A Story by Crowley
"

A bit of silliness...

"

Once, while experiencing technical difficulties I called her on the phone, acting like nothing big was going on and making small talk. She said my name and I paused.

     “Corey?”

     “Yes.”

“What is the square root of Pi?”

“Why the f**k would I know that?”

“Exactly my point, call me back when you have something to say or when you are ready to tell me what’s wrong.”  She hung up.

I went to the desk drawer and pulled out my calculator.  I called her back and she answered.

“The square root of Pi is 1.77245, I lost my job and Katy died yesterday.” I hung up.

The phone rang back immediately and I let it go to voice mail. I waited and then listened to the message. Her voice was angry and frustrated.

“You are an ungrateful a*****e and the worst friend in the entire world…there, I hope that makes you feel better.”

She did, she always did. I texted her a smiley emoji and a fat cat thank you sticker and told her I owed her drinks.  She sent back a flipping the bird emoji and vomit emoji.  I smiled.

Such an interchange can only ever happen between two people who know each other really, really well. The closer the friend, the greater the insult becomes no more than a gentle caress on the cheek. :))

Beccy.

A little banter between friends makes for buttered toast and touches of goodness ' what you get up to when joking around, Corey Crowley! ' Oh yes, you were, and, superbly well, sir you. Smiled, frowned, wondered then.. giggled at the end. Thank you for that. Now then, where's my emoji?

hhhaa I bet it was the "non working part" of them ;)
This is a quite true to life exchange between these two Crowley. There's a lot of history between the lines and insults seem a sign of affection. It does make it hard to know where the truth lies - for example losing the job and Katy dying might just be part of the mutual play insults. i wasn't too sure what ' She did, she always did.' but I am slow on the uptake.
A very witty and well observed bit of dialogue.

Alan

What makes this extra special is the way you have your deep core convictions from living long & fruitfully thru your own tribulations . . . a foundation of honesty & understanding, so to speak . . . then you layer on a more intense youthful ridiculousness to illustrate the absolute mystery called communication between two longtime friends/lovers. Only you pick up on this stuff between people & then deliver it in a totally original way! Hope you're getting lots of love to keep your tootsies warm thru the holidays (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie
