Before the War

Before the War

A Poem by Crowley
"

It can happen just like that...

"

If that morning could have been any more perfect

I would have sent it to you postage paid

For you to open with your tea and toast

In a bright shaft of sunlight, dust dancing

It would have been the last happy moment

One light and insignificant second, beaming

Before the skies turn grey and your house burned to the ground

Life put on hold grasping for a bigger meaning

Those bombs steal the wet pavement and a leisurely stroll

Placing the body politic and heretical values on parade

Eating finely ground snippets of life to be blown forever up

In a direction that stinks of soot and broken families

And the wasted moments….

One moment in a life can end it - click of fingers, blink of lid. You've conjured up the graphic that goes along with whatever happened. Then, wrapped it with a part-sleeping awareness of what's gone is gone. Probably? Not sure if this is metaphorical or reality . whichever it's painful, dark and sad as sad.

' Eating finely ground snippets of life to be blown forever up
In a direction that stinks of soot and broken families

And the wasted moments…. '

WOW! WOW! And WOW! You nailed this to perfection. I can't even think of another thing to say. This is why I have no ability to trust that a relationship might last. I practically assume it won't. But then letting go brings out the most delightful moments, if I can separate it from the other crap when reminiscing! *smile* fondly, Margie

War is the ultimate statement of man's failure. While most of us are good and would not harm our brothers and sisters, we too willingly follow evil towards destruction. I, for one, choose peace.

Me too Sam, me too. Thanks for coming by!!! Hope your week is off to a great start!
Those moments are few and far between, yet when they occur, they are remembered with absolute clarity. Being totally content with everything is a rare moment indeed. Thought provoking lines, well written Crowley.

Thanks so much Christine!
Your words are so powerfully moving, and the pain comes even harsher because the beauty was so sweet. Made me realize how many worlds, formed of individuals in their homes or whole countries, are even in this moment now burning to ash. Wasted moments? Yes... aching in what your words confess, my friend.

Thanks for coming by my friend, always a pleasure!!
I have had a few of these moments and they are just as you suggest...moments....when all the world seems right. I stood before my life crispy and thought...did i even remember to take a breath?
