RepetitionA Poem by Jay RyanWhen I was little my mother taught me this game, If you keep repeating a word it starts to loose its meaning. So i started to repeat my own name And i'd imagine myself drifting of into the space of words people forgot to listen to I used this game to get out of the simplest things, Homework, homework, homework, Chores, chores, chores, Everything If you repeat a word it starts to loose it's meaning And i tried to explain this game with you when you kept telling you loved me every 10 minutes And it didn't work, if anything it made you want to say "i love you" more than you already did. at times, i wanted to scream at you saying "us, us, us" because it would've felt the same way. letting our relationship drift off into the space of words we over said. I never did yell, but at times I would purposely not tell you how much i loved you. And you never quite understood that, still. So you left. Repetition, repetition, repetition if you keep repeating a word it starts to loose its meaning. Every day since then, I found your name wrapped in my throat but every time I tried to say i love you again, I would choke. And I couldn't. If you keep repeating a word it starts to loose its meaning, It isn't a game, It isn't a game, it isn't.
