Long Lost Edmonton

Long Lost Edmonton

A Poem by Hermione TC Lai
"

This is a poem about meeting my mother's friend's son in September 2017.

"

Small city, same middle school.

Yet, it took eight years for us to meet.

Rarest and tallest

One,

You are the first

Chinese boy to kiss me and

Embrace me.

At Gateway,

You showed me the way

To make a strike.

Still, you hit more pins in total.

I bet you felt like a king, winning the match.

I read your mind

like a story,

when you first leaned closer.

For fun and excitement,

I tasted the food slowly instead.

My intuition knew that it was inevitable,

because we are both irresistible.

Apparently,

I can make a good man bad for a weekend,

letting it happen at the bus stop.

We’re young and reckless,

taking this way too far.
It’ll leave us breathless
Or with a nasty wound.

Neither of us

Know if we’ll make a mistake.

But

I’ll write your name across my heart.

The heart wants what it wants.
