Heart of Darkness

Heart of Darkness

A Poem by Daniele

i saw the man with open mouth
voracious, hungry, seeking treasure and gain
and what was in him turned to dust
the fear the torment the devil's rage

and the heart of darkness spoke aloud
shadow slowly creeping along his face
gradual dimming of the light
and natural turns to innate hate

i felt the man with open mouth
beneath the facade of morality he does not hide
and try as i may it will take me
years of neglect emphasized

and the heart of darkness came to me
engulfing, seeking what it always wishes to seek
dreadful eruption of frantic terror
his heart was mine, just opened wide
