BROTHER SUN, SISTER MOON

BROTHER SUN, SISTER MOON

A Poem by Helena

BROTHER SUN, SISTER MOON

Brother Sun shine your beacon over

Planet earth and all creatures

Loved by God and spread

Your healing warmth…

Sister Moon stem the tide of restlessness

Among the people and wash a wave

Of forgiveness and peace forever…

For are you not the sustainers of our lives?

Our flowing life’s blood and throbbing heartbeat

Who knows better than you of a dying universe

destroyed by mankind day by day…

Do not hide your face in shame Brother Sun

We need you to survive a polluted hungry world

Nature cries out for mercy and is losing all hope

Sister Moon do you not weep to see

The cycles of seasons disrupted by

Foolish people who have corrupted harmony

Do not shield your eyes from this drought

Stricken and hungry World...

Show us the way Brother Sun, Sister Moon

Remind us again, we are still ignorant

Despite your warnings…

Please tell us its not too late.

If only more people saw things this way. I was just talking with friend last night that still believes man isn't to blame for our changing climate--incredible. Very nice poem on a most serious subject, Helena.

You speak of nature's give and take. If only we would learn the lesson. It is a wonderful write, it reads like a beautiful prayer. I very much enjoyed it.

This is beautiful Helena. The last line really grabbed me..... hard. "Please tell us it's not too late"... somewhat of a pleading to save mankind from themselves. A very emotional line, seeking hope.

Lovely work and a true pleasure to read!

A beautiful poem Helena. It reminded me of several philosophic works from Native Americans. I think often in this day and age we forget that we are a part of nature. This world is our home, and from it we were birthed. To ignore that relationship is--in the end--impossible.

Plus there are so many cultures that throughout history have worshiped the Sun and Moon that your imagery is both powerful, and wonderfully poetic.

Well crafted and executed, as always.

Your poem choked me up! I loved it!!! The contrast of sun and moon tied into the Earth's dilemma. Marvelous!
