THE RIVER IS A LADYA Poem by Helena
THE RIVER IS A LADY
Watching the river flowing Is a continuous reminder Of life’s everlasting stream…
Like a gracious lady adorned With the royal robes of a princess Winding her way through lands Breasts and hips rounded as the hills Waist whittled across pastures of Jade green and white icy fords Her skirt voluptuously trailing blue velvet
Never stopping to ask the question knowing her ultimate fate The reason beyond explanation Starting from a mountain trickle Her maturity earned by experience Lovely most serene royal highness Of many changing faces
Turbulent at times Coquettish and changeable Ever teasing and bubbling with life Exquisite dancer dipping and flowing In time to nature’s orchestral melody The muses delight with her mysteries Poets' endless sonnets of praise
She bows in reverence to the rain clouds Who fill her spirit with the strength To carry on her journey unimpeded The willow weeps at her beauty As she sweeps by, hair flowing…. Free in the winds of time Ageless and imposing, unforgettable Many worship at her banks A holy shrine... Adored as she passes by ethereal and divine Following her destiny to the mouth Of the sea where she is swept away To the arms of her King.
