I MAY NEED MY UMBRELLA TODAY....

I MAY NEED MY UMBRELLA TODAY....

A Story by Helena
"

Inspired by Tovli's 10 word contest for prose poem/journal. The ten words are: imagine, ant, wandering, tree, shade, wildly, tears, fall, gently, umbrella

"

I may need my umbrella today...

To catch the raindrops as they fall like tears

to sit for a while, then trickle down in little rivulets to make pretty puddles...

A lone ant hurries back to a hole in the brickwork long before the sky even had a chance to turn grey...

I can imagine his cosy little abode amid the long concrete passages leading to chamber after chamber like a pyramid...

his palace of safety after wandering busily and industriously all day..... following shade trails to a paperbark tree. while leaves suddenly unsettled by

a gust of wind danced in a frenzied state, but not fazing him...

I may need my umbrella today….

to shade me from the blazing hot summer sun

that causes thirsty rivers to dry and brown skin to crack and peel like wallpaper stripped back

gently revealing the soft underbelly of

nature’s constantly changing sweet renewal.

I like your poem, especially the last stanza, rich in imagery and well-fitted sounds:

to shade me from the blazing hot summer sun

that causes thirsty rivers to dry and brown skin to crack and peel like wallpaper stripped back

gently revealling the soft underbelly of

nature's constantly changing sweet renewal.

I sometimes wonder if God intended for our own lives to be renewed as life is renewed in nature.
But if you really think about it, that's what reincarnation would be, wouldn't it? I'm a strong beleiver in reincarnation. Our spirit was created to last for eternity. It doesn't die with the physical body, so it's to exist in physical form, it has to be reincarnated.
I think ants must be some of the wisest creatures on earth. They seem to be so in tune with nature, they know when danger lurks and they must seek shelter.
What a beautiful way to use the ten words Helena. Your write is so visual, it says much more than a longstory could tell.

Very good write with the ten words. I too enjoyed the journey though it was a little different for me. I felt like I was walking with you. Thanks.
