STORM CLOUDS

STORM CLOUDS

A Poem by Helena
"

Inspired by Tovli's 10 word challenge at Albert's Poetry Cafe

"

The hand painted vase shattered

Spilling a lone water drop on the shelf

Making the tea stain darker

The veranda wind chimes caught unawares

Jumped in surprise and little tinkling

Voices swayed awkwardly in the breeze

A willy-willy wrapped around a wattle tree

Spilling the pollen of yellow blossoms on the ground

Scattering leaves and branches

Across the deserted yard

Dried and petrified wood casualties in the scourge

Of the waterless ground dotted the red dirt

Dry bones sculpture white eerie shapes

The deathly silence ambush

Clouds in a heavy grey mass

Would there be rain at last?

Suddenly the heaven’s opened and I

Standing in the rain felt a lump in my throat.

A wonderful write for the ten words Helena. I'm thinking your life experience entitles you to a more picturesk language than many possess. I had never seen a willy willy before...that I knew what it was...LOL. Here in Texas, we call them sand storms or dust devils. I love the vision this creates. Your writing is so very visualistic, I can see every scene in my mind's eye. Especially of fat raindrops pocking the dry sand...and what a wish come true that would be.
Love...Liz

Well I can feel this to be an emotional piece, you did use the words very well, I think the emotion in this is do to the drought that has been going on in Australia for too long. Very well expressed Helena.

Good luck in the contest though I doubt you'll need it, you did a great job here. I enjoyed the imagery as well. :)
