“Echoes of Eternal Grace”

 James E. Benthin

since life’s first breath my soul has longed for thee

separated in distance time space from Father’s presence

of thy wondrous being imbued by heavenly light’s

Father Spirit Son missing each as my heart yearns for more

Mere glimpses of our LORD’s face displayed in present grace

But little sip of thy presence is not enough to quench this thirst

Though this life is filled with darkness sufferings and trials

Walking with Jesus at my side radiates through me as clear glass

This world may take our position, possessions even the flesh from our bones

Yet because we are sealed there is nothing that can take us from Father’s hand

Still echoes of eternal grace rings within the confines of our soul

Our most inner being echoing out across time space from past present future

in whom all things have created by spoken word come into being

as words spring to life is glorious majestic fashion marvelous story unfolds

how deep and wide is the love our God so lavishes upon us created broken sinful people

this of greatest tragedy scandalous gift of the cross as precious blood is paid

for all human beings by grace and truth’s perfect union made known by greatest sacrifice

all have fallen short of God’s glory and in such are children of wrath deserving death

yet because of our Father’s steadfast, ongoing, continual love for us He seeks us

all the long days of our life using this life you hem us in behind and before

for before we can be better instruments used for good works and His glory we must be

broken and laid waste in heat of such tempering furnace for the imperfections of our soul

to be cleansed on at a time as sword smith tempers a sword by pressure and heat

we are molded by cooling heating melting as a He is the potter and we are the clay

so that one day on that glorious day when He takes us home or our time is up

we can return home to our where we may worship our Father Spirit Son face to face

just like the woman who knew only a touch would heal her so we wish to just a glimpse

a simple touch to kneel around your throne and sit in the shadow of the cross

when where your Jesus beacons us with open arms and loves graceful sweet  embrace

where man worships God enjoying him forever as all pain sufferings cease without trace
