My Son's FatherA Poem by heidoSarah of Abraham and her son Isaac and God.A child promised into the hands of Abraham The surrender of male fertility Giving to God all that is man Patience aquired with youthful splendor
A patient and quiet devotion I love of this man His simple nature a calm stream Amidst the hot sand beneath my feet
I can never imagine being so grounded So full with faith and love How can he offer our only son I want to kneel at his feet
How can he make a begger of his wife I am learning humility Just as I learn resentment Isaac's trust misplaced
Oh please Father Have we not given enough Has Abraham not trusted enough If his faith will not waiver mine must
And as tears turn to nothing in hot sand So too do the footprints of my son I can not even cling to those You give all and take of all
Who am I to be as a mother? If I am first to honor my husband Nurture my sons And be obedient to God
